At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised by John in the Jordan. Mark 1:9
The birth of a child is one of those special moments in life – a time when we may be aware of God touching our lives in a special way.
As we have the privilege of seeing and caring for a newly created person, it can make us ask those big questions – where do we come from, and why are we here on this earth?
It’s natural that we want to celebrate. The church offers two different kinds of service to celebrate after the birth of a child. The first, a Thanksgiving Service, is simply a service of Celebration – giving thanks for this child, and praying for them and for your family. The second, Baptism, is like the beginning of a journey – not only celebrating, but helping your child on an exciting journey of discovery, exploring the big questions, and discovering as they grow up the greater dimension in life that the Christian Faith opens up. In baptism, Parents and godparents affirm their own faith and make promises on behalf of the child until that child is old enough to affirm those promises for themselves at their Confirmation Service.
Whichever kind of service you are looking for, do contact the Vicar, and we will meet with you to discuss what each service means, what the church can offer to your child and your family.
Sometimes people who were not baptised as infants wish to publicly declare their faith in Christ and be baptised as teenagers or adults. We are delighted to baptise people of any age who are willing to commit themselves to the Lord.
If you wish to have your child baptised, or wish to be baptised yourself, please contact the Vicar.
